  • Sisters Community Church hosts free Thanksgiving feast

    Sisters Community Church is hosting a free Thanksgiving Feast on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. All are invited and welcome to attend. The event is being held at the church, located next to Sisters Middle School at 15220 McKenzie Hwy. Turkey and ham, dressing, mashed potatoes and several other side dishes will be served.   • Monica Offield headlines her own benefit concert

    Monica Offield, local singer and songwriter, kicked off and closed the benefit concert held in her name last Sunday evening at Sisters High School. Offield, a standout performer in the Sisters Folk Festival's Americana Project, has a severe kidney disease, and the show was organized to rally support and raise funds for her medical battle.     Terry and Marilyn Mumey had been looking for an opportunity to start a business in Sisters. High school sweethearts from Sweet Home, both are native Oregonians.   • Sun Ranch Business Park gets approval for lofts

    Sisters Urban Area Planning Commissioners have paved the way for a new kind of development in Sisters. At last Thursday's monthly planning meeting, Dutch Pacific got the first approval needed to build loft apartments above light industrial buildings in Sun Ranch Business Park. Because this live/work use is not currently permitted in Sisters Comprehensive Plan, the project next needs approval from Sisters City Council.     Ninety-three-year-old Mariel Virginia Wilkins Stones, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, passed away peacefully November 3, in American Fork, Utah. Mariel (Mary) was born May 13, 1913, in Vancouver, Washington. She lost her father, Oscar Wilkins, at age five and her mother, Lillian A. Deal Wilkins, a few years after her marriage.     Zygmund Joseph Kij died on November 13. He was 83. He was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, on August 4, 1923. He served 25 years in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He married his wife Harriett in 1968 in Lakewood, California. He was a cabinet maker and enjoyed gardening. He is survived by his wife; son Marc McEveny of San Diego, California; and daughters Christine Bowser of Medford and Cynthia Miller of Kansas City, Kansas; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
