    Jim Cornelius|Updated Nov 25, 1997

Developer Ted Eady's plans for a 25-unit motel on his Barclay Ranch property got unanimous approval from the Sisters Urban Area Planning Commission on Wednesday, November 19. Eady plans to put the four-building complex on 1.5 acres of the Barclay Ranch property that was annexed to the city by the voters in March. The motel, which could be expanded to 50 rooms, is situated on a fairly expansive piece of ground given the number of rooms planned. "I've tried to put this together... Full story

  • District Attorney Dugan wins contempt case

    Eric Dolson|Updated Nov 25, 1997

Even though police did not immediately return files and aircraft radios seized from Brent Steven Sherman when ordered to do so by the court, Sherman failed to prove that Deschutes County District Attorney Mike Dugan "willfully failed to obey the Court's directive." So ruled Circuit Court Judge Stephen Tiktin in a decision signed on November 19, finding that Dugan was not in contempt of court. Sherman said he will ask the judge to reverse the ruling, and, failing that, will appeal to a higher court. The files and avionics... Full story

The Sisters Ranger District is trying to protect habitat for spotted owls and bald eagles while treating and restoring a large section of unhealthy forest along Highway 20 northwest of Sisters. But treatment does not pay for itself, and foresters say timber sales must come quickly if dying trees are to retain their commercial value. That was the message Deschutes County staff planner Brian Harrington gave the Sisters Urban Area Planning Commission at their Wednesday, November 19, meeting. "Basically I'm here to give you a friendly heads up on what's going to be the focus as this thing moves through the legal process," Harrington said. • Letters, letters, letters

    Updated Nov 25, 1997

    * * * To the Editor: Congratulations to the Sisters Outlaws, to Coach Bob Macauley and to all his assistants. In the state 3-A football quarter-final play-off game last Friday night at Parker Stadium in Corvallis, the Outlaws showed everyone what "true grit" really means. A shoulder dislocation in the first offensive series of the game took out our starting quarterback. It appeared a disaster was upon us. I agonized for the team, but as a dad, it was especially painful watching the coach put his injured quarterback-son into... Full story
