Though the weather outside was frightful, the 35th annual Sisters Christmas Parade was delightful, marching into the prime part of the holiday season on Saturday, with sing-along carols echoing down Hood Avenue under silver-grey skies. One of Sisters' most beloved institutions is facing tough times, thanks to the looming federal fiscal cliff. The outdoor-education nonprofit, based in Portland and Sisters, relies heavily on funds from a variety of public agencies. Hikers and bikers have an opportunity to enhance the trails system they enjoy in Sisters Country - and receive a free lunch in the bargain. Two Sisters Trails Alliance work parties are scheduled, December 1 and December 5. With the onset of winter, hikers and mountain bikers look for low-elevation trails to beat cabin fever. Former Sisters High School standout running back Cory McCaffrey was on hand Friday night when Aloha's Thomas Tyner broke the ex-Outlaw's Oregon high school record for most rushing yards in a season. Tyner gained 161 yards in Aloha's second-round 6A playoff loss to West Salem High School (59-46) to give him a single-season best of 3,402, bettering McCaffrey's 2006 season total of 3,335.
