Maybe it was the lack of snow on the ski slopes; maybe snow on the pass Saturday kept travelers in town. It's been a balmy November, without much snow in the mountains. While that may be good for travelers over the Santiam Pass, it is not good for the Hoodoo Ski Area or those who work there. No snow, no jobs, no money. On Monday, November 27, a recent storm had left about 12 to 14 inches of snow on the ground, according to Hoodoo General Manager Mike Obymako. A thief struck Sno-Cap Storage in Sisters last week, removing locks from 10 storage units and stealing firearms and a stereo from one of the units. Sometime between 5:45 p.m. on Monday, November 20, and 8 a.m. the next morning, someone removed locks from 10 storage units at the storage facility located in Sisters Industrial Park. The Sisters Ranger District hopes to publish a final environmental assessment January 24, 1996, of the Jack- Canyon Vegetation Management Project on 16,600 acres of national forest land west of Camp Sherman. The project area includes the drainages of Jack Creek and Canyon Creek, both major tributaries of the Metolius River which provide high levels of dispersed recreational activity. Sisters area children have until December 15 to write a letter to Santa Claus and receive a response again this year, according to Jim Fisher, executive director of the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce. Letters must be mailed before December 15 to allow time for a response before Christmas, Fisher said.
