  • Wrestlers hit the mat in start of season

    Joshua O’Brien took a gold medal at a Culver USA youth wrestling tournament on November 19, wrestling in the 90-pound class. He also took a silver in a November 26 tournament in Redmond against tough competition. The local wrestlers will be in Crook County for a tournament on December 3. The program need additional wrestlers. All kids, male or female, ages six to 16 are eligible to participate.   • Donation will turn park green

    Editor’s note: Two Club members were misidentified in a feature photo last week. they are correctly identified in the photo accompanying this story. The Sisters Garden Club’s largest-ever donation — $4,400 — was given this month to Sisters Rotary Club to pay for plantings at the entry park at the west end of Sisters. “It’s the largest donation we’ve made to one project,” said current club president Mary Crow. “We felt so strongly that Sisters needed a beautiful entrywa... Full story

School board members in Dover, Pennsylvania, were sued for putting ID into the school curriculum and questioning whether evolution is fact or fancy.   • House consumed by fire in Sisters

    A home at 530 N. Cowboy in Sisters burned to the ground in the early hours of Wednesday, November 30. The fire was reported at 1:45 a.m. Homeowners Scott Redfield, 83, and Juliette Angel, 74, escaped the blaze. They were taken to St. Charles Medical for treatment of cuts and hypothermia, according to Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire Protection District Fire Marshal Dave Wheeler. According to Wheeler, firefighters never had much chance to quell the blaze. "It went to the ground," he said. "We had a burn time of 30 to 40 minutes... Full story
