Hundreds of spectators lined both sides of Hood Avenue and applauded and laughed and cheered as group after group came by in holiday regalia.   • Westlund recovering from surgery

    Senator Ben Westlund underwent surgery last week after doctors found a small hole in his colon. According to sources close to the Senator, the condition is not related to the lung cancer that required removal of a portion of Westlund's lung last year. Those sources stated that Westlund went into the hospital last week after experiencing abdominal discomfort. He underwent surgery at St. Charles Medical Center.   • City reservoir repaired

    The roof of the city water reservoir has been sealed. photo by Gary Frazee Citizens of Sisters may rest assured that the drinking water from Pole Creek Reservoir is safe from contamination. The city just spent $70,000 repairing the reservoir roof. "In a few places you could actually see into the reservoir," said Gary Frazee, Public Works Director.   • Former sheriff faces charges for gun sale

    BEND, Ore. (AP) -- A grand jury has indicted former Deschutes County sheriff Greg Brown, accused of stealing a sheriff's assault weapon and selling it to a Redmond resident. The indictment on felony theft charges comes as Brown, 50, serves a 33-month prison term for embezzlement at the Nellis Federal Prison Camp outside of Las Vegas, Nevada.   • Fire consumes Sisters area home

    A flue fire smoldered for hours before bursting into an inferno that consumed a Sisters home on Wednesday, November 26. According to Cloverdale Rural Fire Protection District reports, the fire was called in at 4:34 p.m. at 69432 Hinkle Butte Drive in the area known as Panoramic View Estates east of town. A neighbor spotted flames coming from the roof of the house. The residents, who were renters, were away from the home and returned to find it completely destroyed.   • Hoodoo opens for the season

    With ample snowfall in November, the Hoodoo Ski Area had one of its earliest openings in recent years, officially opening for the winter 2003/2004 ski season on Friday, November 28. This is the earliest opening since 1998. With more than 30 inches of snow and temperatures in the mid-30s, Hoodoo was able to open three chair lifts and approximately 20 ski runs.   • Tree lighting marks start of holiday season in Sisters

    Well over 100 people gathered late Friday afternoon, November 28, to sing carols and enjoy the camaraderie of the beginning of the Christmas Season in Sisters. They came to Barclay Park to "ooh and ah" as a giant Christmas tree provided by the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce was lighted.
