The Sisters Outlaws' football winning streak of 25 games, and the Outlaws' season, almost came to an end on Saturday, December 4, on the turf at Hillsboro stadium. It took overtime and an unlikely hero in front of a crowd estimated at 3,700 for Sisters to prevail against the Scappoose Ind- ians, 33-27. The Outlaws stampeded into their semifinal game against Scappoose after crushing the Henley Hornets, 40-7. People in the Sisters area are being asked to comment on a national initiative to protect "roadless areas" on the National Forests. About 135,000 acres of the Deschutes National Forest would be affected by the protection initiative, according to Forest Service planner Gery Ferguson. Sisters High School is crafting its own "report card" to grade how well the school is preparing students for life beyond the classroom. Sisters will receive particular attention in a regional "housing needs" survey conducted by the Central Oregon Regional Housing Authority (CORHA) and funded by the Northwest Area Foundation. The Sisters High School swim team is practicing at Glaze Meadow pool at Black Butte Ranch. There are currently 10 girls and two boys on the team, according to swim coach Isolde Hedemark. "When football season ends, we'll have two more boys on our team," she said. The swim season runs from November 8 until February 26. With little fanfare, overshadowed by the football team's run at a second, consecutive state title, the Sisters Outlaws basketball team hit the road to Madras on Fri- day, December 3, and Saturday, December 4, for the Bob McKenzie Memorial Tournament. Black Butte Ranch resident Richard Wood and his brother Willem rescued a transient who was caught in a snowstorm last weekend at the summit of McKenzie Pass. According to Deschutes County Sheriff's Office reports, the Wood broth- ers snowmobiled up to the Dee Wright Observatory, where Richard Wood heard cries for help coming from an outhouse.
