    After months of wrestling with ways to fill a shortfall in the City of Sisters' water fund, the Sisters City Council is set to approve a new water rate structure and water rates at its meeting on Thursday, December 9. The rate structure will require many water consumers to conserve in order to avoid increases or realize potential reductions. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Sisters City Hall.   • Holiday food drives underway in Sisters

    The annual holiday food drives are underway in Sisters and the Sisters Kiwanis Club is encouraging those in need to apply for the Kiwanis Holiday Food Share program. The program offers a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, along with pet food for family companions provided through the Furry Friends Pet Food Drive.   • Rodeo entertainers win national awards

    Wayne Brooks, Sisters Rodeo horse-mounted announcer for five years, was honored as Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Announcer of the Year at National Finals Rodeo On December 1 in Las Vegas. The classy Texan walked onto the stage and said, "Believe it or not, I'm speechless." In a conversation later, Brooks said, "When you're on a list with the rest of these guys, you don't write an acceptance speech. You know you aren't going to win." Brooks also won the award in 2005.   • Ten Friends celebrates 'Himalayan Holiday'

    Ten Friends, a Sisters-based nonprofit that assists villages in Nepal with education and infrastructure needs, is celebrating a "Himalayan Holiday" at Aspen Hall at Shevlin Park in Bend, on Sunday, December 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. Admission is free and children are welcome.     A strong Sisters High School girls' varsity squad won their first meet of the season against Mt. View, Gladstone and the host team at the Madras Relay Invitational on Saturday, December 4. The boys had to settle for second place.     Lyle Davis, 84, of Phoenix, Oregon, passed away Tuesday, October 19, after a long illness. Lyle was born on April 18, 1926 to Hiram and Edna Davis of Minot, North Dakota. Lyle's family moved to Sisters in 1936, where he attended school until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1943. Lyle served as a medic in the Navy and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his actions during the Battle of Iwo Jima.     Sisters' matmen kicked off the wrestling season with a five-team tournament at Burns on Friday, December 3. Coach Gene O'Brien bumped all of his wrestlers up a weight because one of his wrestlers couldn't make the trip. Sisters lost 51-30 to Crane in their first dual match of the day.
