    Dale Duvall was born in Everett, Washington in 1924 to parents Henry and Anna Krub Duvall of Marysville, Washington. He played football at the University of Washington before joining the Navy in 1943. He trained as a Navy pilot, and flew Corsairs, SBD, TBM and S2F aircraft. In 1948, he married June Robertson, also from Marysville. Dale graduated from the U of W with a degree in Economics and Business, which served him well in owning and operating two businesses.   • Frigid winter blast smacks Sisters

    Old Man Winter took his time making his way to Sisters, but when he finally arrived he made his presence felt with several inches of snow and frigid temperatures. As usual, snow was heavier to the west of Sisters, where a modest three inches was reported Monday morning at the Sisters Ranger District weather station.   • Man arrested for BBR burglaries

    Black Butte Ranch Police have arrested a 40-year-old Redmond man in connection with a pair of burglaries at the Ranch. According to BBR police, on December 9, officers from the Black Butte Ranch Police Department were called to a residence on the Ranch regarding a possible burglary and theft. The officer investigating the burglary was informed by Ranch personnel while he was investigating the burglary, that on the previous day another officer had taken a report of burglary and theft at a different location on the Ranch.... Full story

  • City works to minimize local street flooding

    Each winter certain spots in Sisters turn into miniature lakes as rain or snowmelt fill low spots on streets and overwhelm dry wells. The City of Sisters is trying to fix that problem. Crews have been out in Sisters for the past week improving drainage at street corners and fixing sunken grades to prevent standing water.     In the wake of an incident that killed a small mule deer buck in Sisters last Thursday, police are urging children to refrain from chasing deer. According to reports of the incident, a group of middle school-aged boys chased a group of deer in the vicinity of the Little League ball fields behind Sisters Community Church.     To the Editor: On Wednesday, December 10, at about 3 p.m. my daughter was standing on the playground of Sisters Christian Academy watching a herd of deer graze. As she watched, two middle school-age boys appeared and started chasing the deer. I'm sure they thought it was great fun making these wild animals panic and forcing them to jump the fence of the baseball field.     Sisters Kiwanis is planning to serve more than 200 families during its holiday Food Share program this month. That's up from 175 last year. According to Barbara Johnson, program coordinator, more than 180 applications have been received and more are coming in.     The Outlaw wrestlers scored 65.5 points to earn a 14th place finish at the Culver Invitational on Friday and Saturday, December 12-13. Coach Jeff Smith told The Nugget that this was by far the largest point total ever by Sisters in this tough tournament which draws schools from every corner of the state.     Sisters Community Garden will have a permanent home for the 2010 growing season and beyond. The group that maintains the garden - presently located on East Adams Avenue on land owned by Sisters Habitat for Humanity - has been looking for a place to set down roots long term. The new location is on the north edge of the Sisters Overnight Park, and is owned by the City of Sisters.     The Lady Outlaws lost 48-35 at Cascade on Thursday, December 11. Despite the loss, the team felt they fought a good battle against the top-ranked Cougars.     Londel Lucas, a senior at Sisters High School, recently completed a project that will officially make him an Eagle Scout. Lucas organized and oversaw the building of a storage shed for the lacrosse program.     The Sisters City Council conducted their final meeting of the year on Thursday, December 11. It was also the last meeting for outgoing councilors Shawna Bell and Brad Boyd. Both were presented with a plaque and a certificate in thanks for their service to the city.
