  • Letters to the Editor 12/17/2014

    Updated Dec 16, 2014

To the Editor: The combination of the power to fill vacancies and, in the case of the Sisters City Council, to appoint the mayor as well, can result in an opportunity for abuse which some say the Council is about to take advantage of. The election of Councilor Chris Frye to the post of mayor would be a major affront to the electorate of Sisters. Having been appointed to the Council only recently, Frye has never been subjected to public scrutiny. We only know him to be a businessman with limited Council experience and someone... Full story

The White Buffaloes are a talented team that can score in bunches, and it was a huge accomplishment for the Outlaws to hold them to just 37 points in the game. Sisters got off to a slow start, missed many good looks at the basket and trailed Madras 9-3 at the close of the first quarter. At the half Madras still held a 18-12... Full story

They enjoy interacting with people, other dogs and yes, even other species, such as cats and farm animals.... Full story

  • Of a certain age...

    Diane Goble, Correspondent|Updated Dec 16, 2014

I remember Christmases when I was a kid - when my sister and I got so many presents we'd fall asleep before we could open them all. We always had huge Christmas trees in our two-story living room, fully decorated with ornaments and tinsel galore, and a big twinkling star on top. I remember some Christmases with my own kids when we had a Charlie Brown Christmas tree and not even a lump of coal to pass between us. Yes, really, about as bad as that in the late '70s, early '80s. It was those times that taught me the meaning of... Full story
