    The Sisters School District has $134,000 more than expected on the books this year - money that can be made available for the budget. The money has actually been in the bank for a couple of years, but due to some accounting tangles, it was not clear until recently that it was unencumbered and available for the general fund.     The Snow Gods of Hoodoo brought the chill of a north wind down the mountain to Sisters on Monday, December 21, to celebrate the crowning of the Snow Queen and the beginning of the Winter Wonderland festivities. Members of Hoodoo's Ski Patrol carried the opening ceremonies torch from Hoodoo Mountain Resort.   • Camp Sherman student to go to Europe with People to People

    High school junior Lauren White is going to be an ambassador. She, along with other Sisters middle and high school students, will be traveling to Europe this summer as part of People to People International's Student Ambassador Program.   • Five wrestlers place at Summit tournament

    Five teams, including Sisters, Gilcrest, La Pine, North Lake and Summit attended the Summit Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, December 19. The young Outlaws squad continued to improve. Josh O'Brien and Steven Nemer dominated their matches and each earned a first-place finish in the tournament. O'Brien (130 pounds) pinned his first two opponents and went on to win the first-place spot with a 17-2 decision.     In a victory for a group of parent activists, the Sisters School District agreed last week to modify its plans to move special education teacher Susie Werts from the middle school to Sisters High School. Instead, the district will hire a part-time reading instructor for the high school to alleviate a caseload of 42 students with one teacher.     •The Sisters High School Key Club organized the annual food drive at the high school for the second time and had a successful year despite the economy. Students received 4,180 items of non-perishable food, toiletries, basic needs and dry pet food for The Nugget Furry Friends Food Drive.     The Outlaws suffered a 74-47 lost at Madras on Tuesday, December 15. Sisters' offense and half court defense performed well the first two quarters against the White Buffaloes, and at the half the Outlaws were only down by 10.     Tate Metcalf, of Sisters Athletic Club, loves to support a cause, so imagine his delight when more than 100 SAC members took part in the annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk in Bend on December 5, to help raise money for the Arthritis Foundation. In all, over $42,000 was raised, according to organizers, and folks from Sisters played no small role in that number.   • Black Butte School hosts winter program

    The Camp Sherman community packed the Community Hall last Wednesday evening to see the Black Butte School students perform their end-of-year winter program. The students brought the joy of the season with song, which included a mix of traditional Christmas carols, a tribute to Hanukkah, a Hawaiian Christmas carol and a Mexican Christmas carol.
