    The budget impasse in Washington came home to Sisters last week, closing down almost all of the operations of the Sisters Ranger District and leading to the furlough of all but a handful of its employees. Staffing on the district has been cut to bare minimum and the district office is closed.   • Three injured in crash near Suttle Lake

    A Bend woman, her daughter and a man from Salem sustained multiple injuries Friday, December 22, in a three- vehicle collision on Highway 20 at the Suttle Lake grade. The accident, which occurred at 12:50 p.m. near Mile Post 86.5, blocked the highway for 2-1/2 hours, the Oregon State Police reported.   • Commissioners cleared of campaign complaint

    The Oregon Secretary of State has cleared Deschutes County Commissioners of charges that public funds were spent to support the recent bond to construct a new juvenile detention facility. The "Final Determination of Possible Violation of Oregon Election Law," was mailed to the county commissioners and Charles L. Horlacher on December 14 by Brenda Bayes of the Secretary of State's office.   • Sisters man found dead in home

    Sisters resident Arthur Curtis Moss, 36, was found dead at his home on Main Street in Sisters Tuesday morning, December 26. Sisters police reported that they were called to the scene at 9:30 a.m. and found Moss dead on their arrival. According to police, Moss' death was an apparant suicide. Sisters police are continuing to investigate the death, assisted by the Deschutes County Sheriff's Department and the Oregon State Police crime lab.   • Mulch more than a tree

    The Deschutes County Public Works Department and The Recycling Team will continue the free Christmas Tree Recycling program for the eighth consecutive year. Between December 26 and January 31, Knott Landfill and all county transfer stations will accept Christmas trees for recycling at no charge. The fee waiver does not apply to commercial lots.   • Truck flips near Sisters

    A truck overturned on Highway 126 just west of Sisters on Thursday, December 21. According the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, truck driver Michael Lynn Daily, 38, lost control of the chip truck just of Camp Polk Road. The trailer overturned, which caused the truck tractor to overturn. Daily sustained head and chest injuries and was transported to St. Charles by the Sisters/Camp Sherman RFPD.   • Cyruses avert loss of Aspen Lakes subdivision

    In a story that could be a classic in its own right, the Keith Cyrus family of Sisters found an angel just before Christmas who loaned them money they needed to prevent final default and loss of the Aspen Lakes subdivision two miles east of Sisters. Escrow on the loan closed on December 22. The final default deadline was December 31. A sheriff's foreclosure sale was scheduled for January 2.
