People all across the Pacific Northwest think of The Suttle Lodge as a summertime place, a place of family vacations at the lake, of canoes and kayaks and waterskis, of hikes along the trail and old-fashioned dinners at The Boathouse.

The Good Day Café opens in Sisters
The Good Day Café adjacent to Bedouin, at 143 E. Hood Ave. in Sisters, is open for business. Last May, when Harmony Thomas bought the adjacent women's boutique called Bedouin from Janet Brockway, it presented an opportunity for her husband Brian to return to his roots as a chef. The café is now open for light breakfasts and lunch five days a week, Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Sisters business opts out of Big Data with no regrets
The new owner of a venerable Sisters retail establishment has joined a hot new trend. Is it a brilliant new technology, disrupting the bookselling business?

On the contrary. Lane Jacobson, owner of Paulina Springs Books since November 1, used the good old-fashioned medium of the email newsletter to announce:

"Given the recent and continuing revelations about Facebook's misuse of and seeming disregard for the privacy of its users and their data, I have elected to halt any further Paulina Springs Books activity on Facebook and Instagram (owned by Facebook). We take the privacy of our customers very seriously, and we expect the same from organizations we partner with and platforms that we use."

Step & Spine to open clinic at Eagle Crest
From a start in a 200-square-foot storage room at Cascade Fitness, Step & Spine Physical Therapy has grown to include a flagship clinic in Sisters, a large facility in Redmond, and a clinic in Bend. Now, the Sisters-based physical therapy clinic is set to open a facility at 7555 Falcon Crest Dr. in Eagle Crest resort between Sisters and Redmond.

Cascade Laser Tag gives Sisters a thrill

Hoodoo Ski Area will open its slopes for the 2018-19 season this Friday, December 7. The Manzanita, Ed, and Easy Rider lifts will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday with limited grooming but plenty of surface powder for skiing and riding.

The people behind The Nugget...
When Leith Easterling started with The Nugget in 1991, the newspaper industry was on the cusp of revolutionary change.

As the third member of a tiny, three-person staff, along with then-owners Kiki and Erik Dolson, Easterling wore a variety of hats: She sold ads, designed and produced the ads, and pasted the paper up - with actual wax on paper. It was labor-intensive work.
