Laird Superfood making a big splash
So what does a world-renowned surfer have to do with economic impact in Sisters, Oregon? The answer to that became more public as professional surfer Laird Hamilton's company, Laird Superfood, cut the ribbon on their new facility in the Sisters Industrial Park on Monday, July 16, at a ceremony attended by civic and company leaders, as well as employees, citizens, and economic development strategists.

Ski lodge renovation gets $20,000 grant
SISTERS (AP) - A couple hoping to restore a dilapidated ski lodge west of Sisters in Central Oregon has received a $20,000 state grant to launch the effort.

The Bulletin reports in a story on Friday that Friends of Santiam Pass Ski Lodge received the grant from the State Historic Preservation Office.

Gypsy Wind clothing opens in Sisters
Since 2008, Janet Kronemeyer, a native Oregonian, has enjoyed owning a retail clothing store that originated in Cottage Grove. But when the travel bug hit her, she and her husband, Tony, moved to Kona, Hawaii, and opened a new shop there.

They had no clue at the time that they would pack up the clothing store several times - like gypsies in the wind - before settling down in Sisters.

"We live up to the name 'Gypsy Wind Clothing,' since we've had stores in Hawaii, Mexico, Arizona and Oregon," Kronemeyer said.

Sisters showcases golf on world stage
Golfers from all around the Pacific Northwest turn out each year to play in the Oregon Open at Aspen Lakes. This year, that showcase event was followed by an influx of international golfers who played at both Aspen Lakes and Black Butte Ranch during the International Association of Golf Tour Operators convention, which was held this year at Sunriver Resort.

Every Tuesday night, a hardworking crew unloads some 7,500 newspapers from a Ford van, stack the bundles in the lobby at The Nugget, and get to work.

They are the inserting crew - the people who put the Ray's Food Place and Bi-Mart and other inserts into the papers readers receive in their mailbox or pick up around town on Wednesday.

Local man wins California barbecue competition
Trails End BBQ Company proprietor Carl Perry of Sisters used his barbecue skills in the San Juan Bautista Rib Cook-off and won first place in both ribs and sauce.

The well-established event highlighted professional rib teams from California, Oregon and Nevada that served over 8,000 pounds of ribs dripping in secret sauces during the cook-off promoted by Williams LTD.
