Claudia Bisso-Fetzer, PhD., is a new resident of Central Oregon.
She is currently living in Bend but loving Sisters as a place to work with people of all ages.
Born in Peru, she is a native speaker of Spanish and uses emergence in the language to teach it in an experiential way. She will begin Wednesday classes at the Tollgate clubhouse on November 1. Class will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. through December 27. This will involve all levels in Spanish individualized for the level of each student. The first session is free, while students sample her teaching methods, get acquainted, and decide if they can make the commitment to the entire nine-week Wednesday series. A fee will be decided at the end of that session.
Claudia will also be teaching mindfulness to develop capacity for empathy, compassion, and connection with others from 10 to 11 a.m.
Born in Lima, Peru, she is a U.S. citizen. She successfully concluded her BS in Psychology in 1994 in Lima from Ricardo Palma University. She began her doctoral program in psychology at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, followed by Alliant International University, San Francisco, California.
She is co-founder and was co-owner of FETZONE, an Environmental Company in the Bay Area for 13 years. She served four years as a board member of The Child Abuse Prevention Council of Contra Costa County, California (CAPC).
Claudia enjoyed her work with seniors in the Bay Area providing psycho-education and mindfulness to them in Spanish and in English.
Claudia complements her professional activities with sports such as cycling and running. She enjoyed her five-year term as a CYO track and field coach assistant to second- through eighth-grade children in Walnut Creek, California, where she lived for more than 20 years.
Family reasons led her to Central Oregon. She is happy, proud and closer now to her beautiful and smart 19-year-old daughter Valerie, attending her second year at Gonzaga University.
Claudia wants to continue working with the senior community in Central Oregon, and she is looking forward to showing the beauty, culture, gastronomy and richness of the Latin culture through the Spanish language.
