Foundation launches giving campaign
By Jim Cornelius
News Editor

For two decades, community volunteers have been working to enhance the education experience of Sisters students through the Sisters Schools Foundation.

From November 5 through November 15, the Foundation will be engaged in an active giving campaign, seeking contributions to continue that tradition of funding education opportunities for Sisters youth.

Donations to the Sisters Schools Foundation may be made at www.ssd6.org/ssf/donatenow/ or checks may be mailed to Sisters Schools foundation P.O. Box 2155, Sisters, OR 97759.

Educators submit funding requests to the Foundation to support equipment purchases or educational experiences for students at all three Sisters schools. The Foundation does not fund salaries. The Foundation makes distributions in the spring and in the fall.

Last spring, for instance, the Foundation provided support such as physical education equipment at Sisters Elementary School and funding for the fourth-grade field trip; funded classroom materials and student retreats for middle school students; LINK Crew advisor training for high school students; and district-wide items like music instruments and athletic trainer supplies.

Over the years, the Foundation has funded choral risers at the elementary school, sixth-grade outdoor school, middle school Language Arts novel books and writing curriculum, I.E.E. Language Arts, Chromebooks and more.

The Foundation also funds a local scholarship for high school seniors' post-secondary education.

"Our goal is to fund as many (requests) as possible, but we have to live within our means," said Foundation board member Ross Kennedy. "Experiential learning is what we're really trying to benefit."

Kennedy said that a similar campaign last year netted $15,000.

"This year, we'd like to shoot for $25,000," he said.

Kennedy noted that the Foundation is an all-volunteer organization, which maximizes the bang for every donated buck.

"There's no administrative cost," he said. "One hundred percent of every donation goes into programs."

Donations can go into the Foundation's general fund or be targeted to benefit a particular program.
