The Lady Outlaws started their week on the road with a 3-5 loss to Ridgeview. Their match that was to be held at Redmond on Thursday, March 23, was cancelled due to inclement weather conditions. In Tuesday’s match against the Ravens, the Outlaws were missing five of their varsity players due to spring break, and as a result had to default on No. 4 doubles. It proved to be a great opportunity for the team’s less experienced payers to compete at a higher level, and Coach Bruce Fenn stated that they all stepped up to the cha... Full story

Brooke Harper (No.... Full story
Last year the boys tennis team only had four players on their roster, and this year they are up to nine. New Coach David Rowell has hopes for the future of boys tennis, and plans to add players to the roster and build the program into one that will be competitive in league play. The Outlaws return only two to the varsity squad this year, seniors Matthew Riehle and Zenus Ortega. Riehle is a team captain who is tall and aggressive at the net and has a killer overhead shot. He is a leader on the team and will start at the No. 1... Full story
The Outlaws boys tennis started their season with a home match against Mountain View on Thursday, March 16. Jude Parzybok (No. 1 singles) played a great first match of the season even though he lost the match 4-6, 0-6 to Devin Merchant. Coach David Rowell noted that Parzybok played an excellent match and had great ground strokes, but that the double faults hurt him. The second set was much closer than the 0-6 score makes it appear. There were many long, great rallies, but... Full story

Traffic and growth To the Editor: Traffic again. How many readers of The Nugget have waited interminably to drive across Highway 20 in the heart of Sisters this year? How many have viewed the “open-air RV showroom” that is Highway 20 for much of the year? How many have seen traffic stretch for a mile west- or east-bound toward the roundabout? Well, the worst is yet to come. While the City is encouraging more tourists to come (to enjoy our colossal traffic jam?) and more businesses to be established (perhaps another Lai... Full story
There’s nothing like attending a 60th high school reunion to promote reflecting on my memories of the past, which are brimming with fun and laughter, satisfying achievements, and yes, some teenage heartbreak that never lasted for long. I am very fortunate to still count as some of my best friends people who shared those teenage years with me. Whenever we talk on the phone, or, more rarely, see each other in person, there has been no passage of time. We are again who we’ve alw... Full story
I read, with some amusement, that the chairman of Russia’s Lukoil, Ravil Maganov, had died after falling out of a hospital window in Moscow. It’s more likely that he died of a severe case of Putinitis, which sometimes looks like poison, and sometimes a car bomb, but is always fatal. But the clown car of Russian politics isn’t the only one on the road; our own government is stuffed so full of world-class liars its credibility is in similar doubt. Recently, when asked by a rep... Gary Thorson, athletic director for Sisters High School (SHS), is looking forward to the start of the fall sports season. “We are super excited to get fall sports rolling again for both SHS and SMS (Sisters Middle School),” he said. “As we started to come out of the pandemic last year we had a good bump in participation numbers and we are hoping to see that again this year,” he said. And the best part for families is that once again there are no pay to play fees for being involved in sports and activities at either school.... Full story

What he loved in horses was what he loved in men, the blood and the heat of the blood that ran them. It’s a woman’s decision I am irritated by the letters from men, telling women that removing choice is a good thing. Since when did a man have any idea what it feels like to be a woman let alone being a pregnant (especially with the progeny of a man you don’t love). Cycling in Sisters is a big deal and getting bigger all the time. Brad Boyd should know. He owns Eurosports on East Hood, one of two Sisters cycling merchants. He started the business in 1993 and has seen it quadruple in size, estimating that the importance of cycling in Sisters has grown commensurately. He attributes the growth to a variety of factors, citing Sisters Trail Alliance as being every bit as much a factor in Sisters’ tourism as the Rodeo or Quilt Show or Folk F... Full story
