    Stewart was born April 25, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, and after a life well lived, passed away December 29, 2021 in Bend, at the age of 86. Stewart was raised in Southern California by his parents, Louis and Fanny Weitzman. This is where his lifelong love of education, hard work, and cars started.     Green-clad runners and walkers filled the streets in the first annual Lucky Leprechaun walk and run, held Saturday, March 12, near downtown Sisters. The squad boasts several very athletic, enthusiastic girls who have a desire to improve, and along with the new additions the team is poised for a great season ahead.     Following the popular Ugly Sweater Run in December, race director Kelly Bither is at it again with a race to help celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.     The boys tennis squad currently has four players, and all are fairly inexperienced. The team will welcome any new players who would like to join and learn the game. There will be no cuts, and everyone is guaranteed to earn a varsity letter. Senior Barry Jaxon and juniors Matthew Riehle and Zenus Ortega return as third-year players, but their tennis experience has been limited due to COVID.     Riley McHugh and Georgie Scott recently won the mixed doubles 4.0 level Gold Medal at the 2021 USA Pickleball Pacific Northwest Regional Championship in Boise, Idaho. This win provides them a “Golden Ticket” to the national championships in December in Indian Wells, California.     The boys basketball squad lost 59-60 to a tough Summit JV team on Monday, May 17, and four days later were defeated 31-50 at home by the Sweet Home Huskies. Monday the Outlaws faced a big, athletic Summit squad, who also had some very good shooters. It was a tight contest and the game went back-and-forth the whole way.     Freshman Juhree Kizziar made a good showing at the girls state tennis tournament held in Roseburg on May 17, and made it to the quarterfinals before she dropped her last match. Kizziar defeated senior Allya Sierra 6-2, 6-1, in her first-round competition. Kizziar started a bit slow and dropped the first two games, but came back strong and won six games in a row to win the first set.     Nate Weber wrapped up his senior year with a fourth-place finish at the 4A state tennis tournament held Monday, May 17, at the Umpqua Valley Tennis Center, and Tuesday at Marist High School. Weber (No. 4 seed) faced Jonathan Swenson of Woodburn in the first round. Weber lost the first set 2-6, but buckled down and came back with a 6-1, 6-1, win to claim the victory.     Richard Oscar Carlson died March 1 in Sisters, from COVID-19. He was 94. Carlson was born February 25, 1927, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Oscar and Faye Carlson, a banker and an educator. He was married to Barbara Nelson from 1948 through 1972, and to Joanne Kitchel from 1975 until her death in 2016. The Carlsons settled in Sisters for retirement in 1987. Dexter Payne (No. 2 singles) and Jaxon Barry (No. 3 singles) both won in long, grueling, three-set matches. Payne beat Alex Farren 6-0, 4-6, 6-4. Sisters returns several talented, experienced players this year, and there are several strong new additions.     The Outlaws tennis players traveled to Estacada on Tuesday, April 13, and a day later hosted the Cascade Cougars. On Friday, they wrapped up their week with a match at Molalla. The Outlaws only have six players, so the younger ones are getting a lot of time on the court. Nate Weber easily won his singles match against Avery Dryden, 6-2, 6-0, in Tuesday’s match at Estacada.
