    The girls tennis squad competed in the first round of districts held at the Columbia Basin Racquet Club in Richland, Washington, on Friday and Saturday, May 10-11. The team played well, and will send four singles players and one doubles team to the quarterfinals, which will be held at Crook County High School on Friday and Saturday, May 17-18.     Sisters High School will host the 3A Special District 3 Championships this week on Thursday and Friday, May 9-10. The meet serves not only to determine the team champions for the district, but as the qualifier for the OSAA Track and Field Championships set for the following week at Hayward Field. The top two finishers in each event will qualify for state, along with one state-wide wild card entry in each event.   • Whychus Overlook project starts next week

    The Forest Service is partnering with Sisters Trails Alliance to make the Whychus Creek Overlook on the Sisters Ranger District more accessible. The top rail of the Whychus Creek Overlook wall will be removed, and two viewing portals with security cables will be created to improve accessibility.     The Outlaws track and field team finished a busy week with a handful of team members competing at the prestigious Jesuit Twilight Relays on Friday, April 26. The meet attracts athletes from all classifications in Oregon and Washington who have met certain standards, making the event the most competitive of the season.     The Outlaws’ top two singles players won their matches against the White Buffs at Madras on Wednesday, April 24. Dominic Pulver (No. 1) entered the match with a lame shoulder that he injured at the Caldera Tournament the previous weekend, but he was able to grind his way though and came out on top 6-2, 7-6, against Fernando Saldana.     The girls tennis team notched a 5-3 win over the White Buffs at home on Wednesday, April 24, in very cold and windy conditions. The win moved them to 4-0 in conference play. They are 12-5 overall with their only losses to much larger schools; a loss to powerhouse Jesuit, two losses to Summit, and a loss to Redmond and Ridgeview.     The Outlaw Boys Golf team travelled to Bend Golf Club, on April 15, and for the first time in four years were able to post a team score with four players. Devin Coverdale carded a 94, Carson Bell 97, Weslee Owens 110, and Dillon Luddy shot a 111, for a team total of 412.   • Sisters snowmobiler is a champion

    Marcus Boyd is a prodigious talent on a snowmobile - and he proved it last month in Wyoming. Boyd won the juniors World Championship Hill Climb at Jackson Hole March 21-24, and he won by four seconds, a very big margin in such races. The run is like an Olympic downhill in reverse, with the snowmobile climbing a steep slope. "It feels like it's straight up and down," Boyd said.     The boys tennis squad started their week with a 4-4 tie at Madras against the White Buffs on Tuesday, April 9. Two days later they fell 2-6 at Prineville. In Tuesday’s match against the White Buffs, the Outlaws swept in all four singles spots and the White Buffs won every match in doubles play.     First-year golfer Dillon Luddy made a hole-in-one in his first high school tournament on April 2 when the Outlaws golf squad played at Prineville Golf Course. He finished with a score of 97.
