  • Outlaws duel in Clash of the Cascades

    Unlike other sports, it is rare for cross country teams to go head to head against one team, but for this year's Clash of the Cascades, held at Pole Creek Ranch on October 8, it was the Outlaws against the Ridgeview Ravens. Due to the smaller nature of the event all the boys and girls ran simultaneously on the five-kilometer course that looped through the dirt roads on the ranch property.   • Lady Outlaws split matches on hardwood

    The Lady Outlaws defeated Elmira at home in three straight sets with scores of 25-16, 25-6, and 25-21, on Tuesday, October 1. At home two days later they lost in four sets to top ranked Pleasant Hill (PH) with scores of 25-17, 26-28, 12-25, 15-25. In Tuesday’s action, the first set against the Falcons was close until midway through the set when the Outlaws were able to pull away for the win.   • Outlaws football suffers first league loss

    The Outlaws suffered a disappointing 28-19 loss at Cottage Grove (CG) on Thursday, October 3. The contest started off great with Dawson Roberson getting an interception in the end zone which ended CG’s opening drive. Sisters took possession on the Lions’ 20-yard line. Hunter Bronson hit Hudson Beckwith on a nice pass for a 79-yard touchdown (TD) run.     The Outlaws boys and girls cross-country teams continued their steady growth over the past two weeks with two meets against strong 3A/2A/1A competition. Thursday, October 3, the squad competed at the Regis/Stayton Invitational where the boys placed second and the girls third among sixteen teams represented. 4A Stayton won both team titles.     The Lady Outlaws soccer squad fell 3-0 to Central Linn at home on Monday, September 30, but bounced back on Thursday, October 3, and defeated Creswell 2-1 in another home contest. On Monday, with the Central Linn Cobras ahead by one, the Lady Outlaws were sure they’d scored a goal to knot it up in the 35th minute of play.     The Outlaws fell 2-1 on the road at Siuslaw on Monday, September 30, and three days later suffered a tough 1-0 loss to the Eagles at Santiam Christian (SC). Despite the loss to Siuslaw on Monday the Outlaws proved they are able to compete with the best teams in the league, and that bodes well as the Outlaws finish up the second half of the season.   • Football steamrolls over Elmira

    The Outlaws notched a big 49-7 win in their league opener on the road at Elmira on Friday, September 20. Sisters opened with a massive 17 play drive to start the contest. The drive took almost 10 minutes off the first quarter and was capped by a Kale Mock three yard run off the right side. Reid Woodson’s PAT was good and the Outlaws took a 7-0 lead that held through the end of the period.     The Lady Outlaws Soccer Team posted a 6-1 victory at home against the Elmira Falcons on Tuesday, September 24. Ella Davis got the Outlaws’ scoring spree started 23 minutes into the contest. Mia Rosas sent a through ball from the Outlaws past the Falcon defense and found Davis, who finished it right past the keeper for the score.     The Outlaws’ team started off the week on Tuesday with a three-game sweep over the visiting Creswell Bulldogs (No. 10), with scores of 27-25, 25-23, and 25-22. Two days later they defeated the La Pine Hawks in three close sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-20). Tuesday’s match against Creswell wasn’t easy.     The Outlaws boys soccer team fell 4-0 at Creswell on Monday, September 23, but came back three days later and beat East Linn Christian 3-1. Sisters knew the Creswell Bulldogs would be motivated to beat them, as they were the team the Outlaws played for the league championship last year in a come-from-behind 5-4 win.     The Outlaws got off to a sluggish start after their long bus ride to Corbett last week. The Cardinals took advantage and jumped to an early lead, scoring three times within the first seven minutes of the contest. Coach Jeff Husmann said, “Our back line, and the whole team, was flat-footed and groggy.     The Lady Outlaws soccer squad defeated Siuslaw Monday, September 16, on the road in a final score of 2-0. Devon Stevens got the Outlaws on the scoreboard in the 32nd minute of the game. A throw-in found Melia Jenkins in the middle of the field, and Jenkins passed the ball over to Stevens, who had made a run down the wing, and one-touched it for a goal over the keeper’s head into the back of the net.     The Lady Outlaws started their week with a tough four-set road loss to top ranked Pleasant Hill (PH) on Monday, September 16, with scores of 16-25, 25-23, 15-25, and 12-25.     The Outlaws soccer squad took down Western Christian (WC) at home on Saturday, September 14. Sisters players came out loose and focused from the opening whistle. They played well as a cohesive unit, and the early control of the midfield and the involvement from the defense led to the Outlaws first goal.     The Lady Outlaws soccer squad fell 3-1 at Creswell on Monday, September 9, but at home two days later they edged out Pleasant Hill 1-0. On Monday, Creswell scored off a corner kick in the first half of Monday’s match-up and the Outlaws entered the half down 0-1.     The Lady Outlaws hosted 25 teams in their annual Sisters Tournament. Twenty-four teams were from Oregon and Melba High School joined the fray from Idaho. Valley Catholic defeated Crook County in the championship match, and Cascade and Melba tied for third place.     Approaching the first meet of the season as a hard practice gave the Outlaws cross-country teams an attitude of testing fitness while getting some race experience simultaneously.     Makena Zorza was hired three weeks ago as the girls assistant soccer coach, but after long-time coach Brian Holden resigned, she took over the head coaching position. Zorza graduated from Hood River Valley High School (HRVHS) in 2018 and played soccer all four years, three years on their varsity squad as a forward and outside midfielder.     The Outlaws soccer squad lost 0-5 at home against Madras on Thursday, September 5. The match was scheduled to be played in Madras, but due to smoky conditions was moved to Sisters. The White Buffs are a disciplined and well-coached team and the Outlaws knew they were in for a battle.     The Outlaws fell 21-25, 15-15, 25-22, and 26-28 in a tough match at Caldera on Tuesday, September 3. A day later they hosted 3A Burns and 2A Trinity Lutheran.     The Outlaws football team returns eight starters on both sides of the ball, including seniors Hudson Beckwith, Kolbi Cotner, and Garrett Sager, and juniors Kalvin Parker, Jozua Miller, and Ethan Eby.     The boys soccer squad defeated the Delphian Dragons 3-1 on the road on Friday, August 30. The Dragons were the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year.     The boys’ soccer team has proven they are a squad to be reckoned with. The Outlaws have established themselves as one of the strongest teams in the league, winning league titles the past two years.     Josh Kreunen was recently hired as the new head volleyball coach, and has only had time with the Lady Outlaws during daily doubles. After just one short week he’s had to divide over 36 girls into three teams, and get ready for preseason play.
