The Outlaws track and field team finished a busy week with a handful of team members competing at the prestigious Jesuit Twilight Relays on Friday, April 26. The meet attracts athletes from all classifications in Oregon and Washington who have met certain standards, making the event the most competitive of the season. The Outlaws’ top two singles players won their matches against the White Buffs at Madras on Wednesday, April 24. Dominic Pulver (No. 1) entered the match with a lame shoulder that he injured at the Caldera Tournament the previous weekend, but he was able to grind his way though and came out on top 6-2, 7-6, against Fernando Saldana. The girls tennis team notched a 5-3 win over the White Buffs at home on Wednesday, April 24, in very cold and windy conditions. The win moved them to 4-0 in conference play. They are 12-5 overall with their only losses to much larger schools; a loss to powerhouse Jesuit, two losses to Summit, and a loss to Redmond and Ridgeview. The Outlaw Boys Golf team travelled to Bend Golf Club, on April 15, and for the first time in four years were able to post a team score with four players. Devin Coverdale carded a 94, Carson Bell 97, Weslee Owens 110, and Dillon Luddy shot a 111, for a team total of 412. The boys tennis squad started their week with a 4-4 tie at Madras against the White Buffs on Tuesday, April 9. Two days later they fell 2-6 at Prineville. In Tuesday’s match against the White Buffs, the Outlaws swept in all four singles spots and the White Buffs won every match in doubles play. Outlaws varsity baseball, winners of seven straight, now look to keep their bats alive versus Elmira. Sisters sent La Pine home empty handed last week. The series began April 16 in La Pine, where the Outlaws defeated the Hawks 6-4. A change in the meet schedule turned out to be a chance for the Outlaws girls track team to show their true potential as Sisters tied for the team title among 25 schools at the Mazama Invitational on Saturday, April 20. The Lady Outlaws started their week with a 5-3 win over the Lady Buffs at Madras on Tuesday, April 9, and two days later Sisters finished in a 4-4 tie at home against Crook County. Sisters High School Equestrian Team took home several top awards for the 2023-2024 season of Central District OHSET (Oregon High School Equestrian Teams). First-year golfer Dillon Luddy made a hole-in-one in his first high school tournament on April 2 when the Outlaws golf squad played at Prineville Golf Course. He finished with a score of 97. Weslee Owens, playing in his first event, scored 112. The Outlaws track teams finally started the competitive season with two meets last week - a three-way meet at Mountain View on Tuesday, April 2, and the 10-team Sisters Invitational Saturday, April 6. In Monday’s match at home the Outlaws fought the wind the entire day and in the end fell 3-5 to The Dalles. Coach Vince Grace was out of town and girls Coach Bruce Fenn stepped in as coach. Central Oregon Volleyball Club's 18 Nationals team has qualified to play in the prestigious USAV National Championship in Baltimore, Maryland. The team earned a bid at the Pacific Northwest Qualifier in Spokane, Washington placing first in the American Division made up of 32 teams located in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Texas, Utah, and more. Despite the fact the Outlaws were without their No. 1 singles player, Juhree Kizziar, the singles players were dominant and won three of the four matches. The Outlaws pushed their limits and took risks at the Oregon Interscholastic Ski Racing 2024 State Championships at Mt. Hood Meadows, Wednesday through Friday, March 6-8. They didn't make top finishes, but they ended their season on a spirited note. Wednesday was a training day. The snow was dry and cold with sunny skies and calm winds, which made for a fun day and great team bonding. The girls tennis squad returns several players and hopes to repeat as the Special District 4 champions again this year. Leading the way will be senior Juhree Kizziar, who was undefeated in conference play last year, and was the No. 1 singles champion at district. Kizziar has been playing all winter at the Athletic Club of Bend, and, according to Coach Bruce Fenn, her game is even better in all areas — especially her serve and volleys. The boys tennis team currently has nine players on their roster, but would love to add more so they can fill the slate. Players are fairly young and new to the sport, so it will be a building year for the Outlaws. Junior Jude Parzybok and sophomore Dominic Pulver are top returning players. Pulver placed sixth at District last year and barely missed going to state. Both Pulver and Parzybok have very strong first serves, but their biggest weapons are their forehands at the baseline. The long road to the OSAA State Wrestling Championships concluded with two Outlaws placing in the top six, and one narrowly missing a medal. Junior Carter Van Meter, who brought a 38-16 record to the tournament picked up three more wins for the season on his way to fifth place in the 3A 126-pound class. Vince Grace, a long-time resident of Sisters, has taken over the reins as the new head coach for the boys' tennis team. Grace recently retired from the U.S. Forest Service, but still actively contributes in the summer months. Last year he volunteered to help Bruce Fenn with the girls' tennis program. Senior Justin DeSmet signed an official letter of intent on Thursday, February 22, to play football for George Fox University (GFU) Bruins this coming fall. DeSmet was a key player for the Outlaws and will be an asset to the Bruins football squad. DeSmet grew up in Dayton and lived there until he moved to Sisters as a junior. For the first time in school history, the Lady Outlaws basketball squad came out on top in the first round of the state playoffs. They travelled all the way to the coast on Wednesday, February 21, and took on No. 13-ranked Warrenton Warriors.
