Camp Sherman man arrested

A Camp Sherman man was arrested in his home early Sunday morning, October 1, after police were alerted to a possible hostage situation.

Garth M. Nelson, 53, was to be arraigned in Jefferson County Circuit Court Monday on charges of attempted rape, fourth- degree assault (a misdemeanor) and three counts of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

He was being held in the Jefferson County Jail in Madras.

Authorities responded to a report that an unidentified female was being held against her will in Nelson's home by an armed male subject.

Jefferson County deputies removed the woman from the Camp Sherman summer home and arrested Nelson without incident at 4:30 a.m. A sheriff's report said Nelson and the woman had been together earlier at a Sisters bar and that alcohol was involved in the situation.

Assisting Jefferson County in the arrest were Deschutes County deputies, Sisters police and Black Butte Ranch police.
