United Way extends a hand

The Redmond/Sisters United Way fund-raising campaign will kick off in the next few weeks, raising money for 16 local volunteer organizations including the Red Cross, scouting and programs that target the needs of senior citizens.

"With the present down-sizing of federal and state agencies and their budgets, it is imperative the private sector become more engaged in their community programs...," said volunteers in a fund-raising letter sent out on October 3.

This year the Redmond/Sisters United Way goal is $82,500. Of every dollar, 93 cents goes directly to member agencies. The local United Way is managed and operated by volunteers who work and live in Redmond and Sisters.

Red Cross is slated to receive $13,000 of the 1996 United Way budget, with scouting and Campfire, Hospice, COBRA, COCOA, Meals-on-Wheels and others also receiving a portion of the donations.
