School salary increase correction

In last week's Nugget, it was reported that teachers claimed school administrators received a salary increase this year. This is incorrect, according to school business manager Earl Armbruster.

No raises have been granted to administrators for the '95-'96 school year, according to information Armbruster provided. No salary increases were budgeted for any continuing personnel.

For the 1994-95 school year, the school superintendent did receive a 6.4 percent raise, the high school principal a 4.7 percent increase, the elementary principal a 1.2 percent hike and the high school vice-principal a 5.7 percent drop (for a new individual in this position).

During the same period, teachers received .5 percent increase for half the year, and 1 1.5 for the rest of the year, effectively a 1 percent increase.

In 1993-94, administrators took a voluntary freeze, except for the elementary school principal who received a 3.6 percent increase for taking on the responsibilities as principal for the fifth and sixth grade, duties that formerly belonged to the superintendent, Armbruster said.

The high school vice-principal received a 3 percent bump that year, but that's because the position was being filled by a teacher on an extended duty contract and the raise was linked to a hike in his teacher's salary, said Armbruster.

Teachers received a 4 percent increase for the '93-'94 school year, according to Armbruster.

Teachers also received a 4 percent bump in the '92-'93 school year according to Armbruster's records. During the same year the superintendent was given an 11.3 percent raise and the elementary principal a4 percent increase. The high school principal and vice-principal positions were filled for the first time that year.

Information for prior years was not readily available.

According to Pat Young, business manager at the Redmond School District, teachers there received a 4.25 percent increase in '92-'93, a 3 percent in '93-'94, a 2.9 percent in '94-'95 and a 2.9 percent increase in '95-'96.
