Man arrested for rape

A Sisters man was arrested Wednesday, April 10, after he allegedly raped a 19-year-old woman who had visited him at his home on East Cascade Street.

James Robert Bloss, 45, was taken into custody on charges of first degree rape, sodomy and unlawful sexual penetration.

According to police reports, the alleged rape occurred while the victim was at Bloss' residence, possibly taking a guitar lesson. Police reported that the victim fled Bloss' house after the alleged rape and went to the Hotel Sisters where a friend of hers was working. The friend contacted police.

Sisters police contacted the woman and deputies were dispatched to the house where the alleged rape occurred, which lay within county jurisdiction.

The woman was transported to St. Charles Medical Center.

Deputies contacted Bloss at his residence where they seized bedding and clothing items which were sent to the crime lab for examination. According to police, Bloss was cooperative agreed to be taken to St. Charles for a medical examination, including DNA analysis. Bloss allegedly denied having sexual contact with the woman.

Bloss was subsequently arrested and lodged in Deschutes County jail on $40,000 bail.
