News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Blue Lake Resort purchased, goes private

Blue Lake Resort 20 miles west of Sisters has been purchased and is closed to the public as of April 2.

Portland advertising executive Dan Wieden and his wife acquired Lake Shore Development, which owns and operates the resort, for $800,000. Assessor's maps indicate that the lake itself was not part of the transaction, but the new owners have ended public access.

Blue Lake Resort formerly offered lodging, canoeing, fishing and horseback rides. The new owners advertised that they plan to open a camp for children at the site emphasizing arts and crafts, writing, photography, performance art and environmental learning.

Wieden did not return phone calls from The Nugget.

According to a report in the Bend Bulletin, prior owners Ken and Ruth Lovegren are retaining their home on the site and over 100 acres of land where their children plan to build homes.

The Alpine Restaurant, located near Blue Lake, will open as scheduled April 27.
