News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
It snowed. On June 17, a little more than two weeks before the Fourth of July, people huddled in their coats in Sisters and it snowed in the mountains.
"There was thunder and lightning first, then the snow came after that," said Ken Rinner of the Highway Division of the Oregon Department of Transportation at the Santiam Junction.
Rinner said that about lunch time, enough snow had accumulated to make the road surface a little slushy. Crews halted plans to do some "ditching," removal of road sanding cinders and reforming drainage ditches along the side of the highway so water would flow.
Later Monday afternoon the slush melted and threatening skies dribbled a rain and snow mix.
Weather was expected to warm later this week. Sure.
