News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Camp Sherman will soon have an extra measure of security from fire danger and other emergencies.
Starting July 4, David Wheeler, a third-year fire/paramedic student with the Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire Protection District will begin three-days-a-week service at the Camp Sherman station.
Wheeler will be in the Camp Sherman area 10 hours per day Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the summer conducting station duties, fire patrol and enforcement of burning regulations.
According to Fire Chief Don Mouser, the stepped up presence is in response to growing use of the Camp Sherman recreational areas.
Mouser said that Wheeler will help those with questions about burn permits and other regulations and his presence at the previously volunteer-only station will allow immediate response to emergencies.
Wheeler will also conduct regular patrols to keep an eye out for fire as the region enters the height of fire season.
