News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Sisters City Council last week authorized City Administrator Barbara Warren to proceed with an application for a $110,000 grant that would be used to hire an engineering firm to finish a waste water treatment facility study for the city.
Warren said she has discussed the matter with Forest Service representatives and she is confident the city will receive the grant. She said $11,000 of the project must be put up by the city in cash and in-kind services. She said another $11,000 would come from the county. The remainder would be granted in cash by the Forest Service.
The grant application and sewer study authorization is to appear on the agenda of the July 25 city council meeting. The application must be submitted before the end of the month.
Councilor Jean Cooper urged her colleagues to be resolute in following through on the sewer issue.
"If we approve this at the next meeting, we have to stand behind it all the way," Cooper said. "The council didn't do it before. We need to complete the study and go forward."
