Lebanon man arrested for punching wife

A Lebanon man was arrested Tuesday, August 27, after he allegedly punched his wife in an argument at a campground near Camp Sherman.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, Charles M. Mercier, 36, was deer hunting in the Camp Sherman area near First Creek with his wife. The couple allegedly had an argument over when they would return home to Lebanon.

Police reported that the couple spat in each others faces, then Mercier allegedly punched his wife in the right arm hard enough to dislocate her shoulder.

The woman left camp with her two children and walked to the Camp Sherman Store where police were called at about noon.

The woman was transported to St. Charles Medical Center.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Mercier at about 3:20 p.m. on Jack Lake Road. According to police, he went to his residence in Lebanon, then back to Camp Sherman to look for his family.

Mercier was charged with Assault IV and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, both misdemeanors. He was not held in custody.

His wife stayed overnight with her two children at a shelter in Bend, police reported.
