Assault alleged

On Friday morning, September 13, it was reported to school officials by a student that a friend of hers had been sexually assaulted off school grounds in the forest west of the middle/high school complex.

The assault allegedly occurred after school was released on Thursday, September 12, at about 3:15 p.m.

The student directly involved was interviewed by school staff on Friday morning, and the matter was turned over to the Deschutes County Sheriff's Department. Detectives began their investigation on Friday and asked that school officials not share information on the accusation until they investigated the case further.

On Monday, September 16, school officials were informed by the Sheriff's office that they were still investigating the case, and recommended that the school advise staff, students and parents of the investigation.

School officials held meetings with students on Monday, grades 5- 12, to inform them of what allegedly happened and to alert them of the issue of student personal safety once again.

Information was sent home to all parents of students grades K- 12.

During the first week of school, school staff and administration addressed personal safety awareness issues with all students in the school district.

That warning was prompted by a conversation between three teen-age girls and a registered sex offender.

The current investigation is not thought to have any relationship to that contact.
