United Way needs help

The Redmond/Sisters United Way campaign reports a slow start this year, just over a third of the way to their goal of raising $85,000 for local service organizations.

The largest beneficiary of the United Way campaign is the Red Cross, at $13,000. Boy Scouts, Campfire Girls and Boys and Girl Scouts together are slated to receive $22,500.

Only $31,335 has been pledged to date to provide funding for a total of 16 agencies (see sidebar).

Approximately 885 individuals were served in the SistersBlack Butte Ranch areas the past year by agencies funded by United Way.

The Sisters Organization For Activities and Recreation (SOAR) was recently given an initial grant of $100, and the Central Oregon Council On Aging recently placed an outreach worker, Katie Powers, in Sisters. She can be contacted at 549-4112.

All these groups need United Way, and United Way needs participation by people in Sisters. For more information regarding the campaign or agencies, call Barry Maroni, 548-8l28, or Gloria Phillips, 548-2497.
