Sisters concert series wins major sponsors

Ray's Food Place of Sisters and Coca-Cola of Central Oregon have signed on as title sponsors for the 1997 inaugural Sisters Starry Nights Concert Series.

The co-sponsors committed to lead sponsorship last week. Both have contributed money and thousands of dollars worth of food and beverage products to help the concert series.

"We're really pleased to offer any kind of assistance to the community we can, especially to the Sisters School Foundation. We like to help our school children," said Ray's Food Place Sisters store manager, Robin Davis.

Food items will help feed the concert entertainers during their stays in Central Oregon. Coca-Cola products will be sold during the three performances at the Sisters High School Auditorium. The bottler will donate the proceeds of the sales to the school foundation.

The performers are donating their time and talents to the fund-raiser. The concert series presents nationally-known singer-songwriters and local musicians performing acoustic country, folk and pop tunes.

Funds raised go to the Sisters Schools Foundation. The foundation benefits classroom and extra-curricular activities for all Sisters-area school children. The charity will help offset the loss of school tax revenues resulting from recently passed tax limiting measures.

The lineup of musicians includes a Saturday, February 22, performance by folk/rock artists Karla Bonoff and Kenny Edwards. Singer-songwriter Mark Kershner of Sisters will open the show.

Kim Carnes will perform her "blue-eyed soul" and country-style tunes Saturday, March 15. Sisters local group, The Blue Darts will open.

Nicolette Larson and Kenny Rankin are featured Saturday, April 19. Larson has several pop and country hits. Rankin's singing talent spans pop to jazz to blues.

Tickets are $15 and available in Sisters at The Bank of the Cascades (388-1800) and the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce (549-0251).

In Bend, tickets are on sale at Boomtown (388-1800). All TicketMaster outlets carry tickets and they are available through charge-by-phone at (503) 224-4400.
