News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The 15-year-old victim claimed she left school on September 12 a few minutes before 3 p.m. for a walk on the nearby nature trail. She said she was grabbed from behind by an unknown assailant dressed all in black who exposed himself and jumped on top of her, reported Deschutes County Sheriff's Department Detective Bob Stone, at the time.
The victim told the detective that she kneed the assailant in the groin and then walked out of the woods. However, she did not report the assault to her mother who picked her up a short time later, but did talk about it to a friend that night.
Another friend reported the incident to school authorities, who then called in the sheriff's department.
Detective Stone said at the time that "there is no doubt in my mind that something took place, but I don't believe someone is stalking the kids at the high school."
According to Vice-Principal Rich Shultz, no one was apprehended and the school was never informed that there was a suspect.
Principal Dennis Dempsey was told that the investigation was being dropped.
The victim has moved out of the district, according to school authorities.
Deschutes County Sheriff's Captain J. D. Moore indicated that the case was no longer being actively investigated and would probably be dropped for lack of any evidence.
