Don Rowe named Citizen of the Year

Don Rowe of Sisters was named 1996 Citizen of the Year at the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce annual installation dinner held at Black Butte Ranch Restaurant and Lodge.

Black Butte Ranch was presented with the first annual Business of the Year award. The surprise awards were presented by Chamber Board Director Bob Grooney before an audience of over 100 chamber members and guests.

Rowe was recognized for a lifetime of accomplishments in volunteer positions including: charter member of the Sisters Jaycees, chairperson for the annual Community Christmas Dinner, fire prevention officer, creator of the Juvenile Fire Setter Program in which he counsels local children involved with fire-setting and charter member of the Sisters Ambulance crew.

Rowe has also served faithfully for many years in the Sisters branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He is often involved in service projects including supplying wood, food and financial aid for individuals and families in the community.

Black Butte Ranch was cited for its numerous contributions to community and school projects including the annual Chef's Night Out, Sisters Starry Night Concerts Series, support of the Sisters High School dance team, golf team, baseball team and year book, and community organizations like the Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs.

A special volunteer award was presented to chamber volunteer Deb Kollodge. She volunteers numerous hours to the chamber and is also active with the Sisters Community Improvement Commission, city budget committee, Sisters Elementary School computer program and the Sister Community Center Committee.

Past Chamber Board President Mike Wonser and past Chamber Executive Director Jim Fisher also received awards recognizing their service to the chamber.
