News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
According to Sisters fire chief Don Mouser, the fire is under investigation but appears to have been "started by person or persons unknown."
There were no injuries, but according to resident John Stoller, a painting contractor, the fire destroyed all of his painting equipment, mountain bikes, record collection and other family possessions. Total property loss, including the shed, is approximately $6,000.
Stoller told The Nugget that he wasn't sure what woke him up, but the fire was already raging when he discovered it.
"It must have been the crackling and popping or a small explosion like the lawn mower blowing up," Stoller said. "I got out there with a hose and saved the trees and kept the fence from burning or (the fire) getting to the house or blowing up the car."
Stoller believes the burning was a random act.
"Since we're on the end (of the street), I figured it's a pretty easy target and fun to watch burn," he said. "It's just so senseless, it makes me sick."
Stoller is offering a $200 reward for information leading to the apprehension of those responsible for the fire. Anyone with information is requestted to contact the fire protection district at 549-0771.
