Letters, letters, letters

To the Editor:

Thank you for printing my letter. It would have been nice to print what I wrote instead of modifying it to suit your own political agenda.

The state of Oregon (which is what you printed) and the State of Oregon (which is what I sent in) are not the same thing. The state of Oregon (i.e., Oregon state, Oregon country, Oregon territory) is the de jure side of the Law. The State of Oregon is the de facto side of the Law. You completely changed the meaning of my submitted letter and, if anyone was intelligent enough, would think I was some sort of illiterate, which I'm not.

If you are going to allow me to exercise my First Amendment Right (which preceded the Constitution for the (u)nited States of America), then write what I say, not what you want, or don't bother. Which brings up another issue: by what authority do you have to deny printing what I write? By what authority do you operate?

I expect, no I demand, a correction in the next paper on the "State of Oregon" versus the state of Oregon. By not putting in the ORS quote, you absolutely denied your readers the forum of Truth.

Do you believe that citizen and Citizen are one in the same? Perhaps you need more education as well. If I have no response, I can only assume you need to be educated.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Without Respect,

The response is that we believe Gary Raymond., Harvey to be a figment of his own imagination. - E.D.

To the Editor:

Do you know what scares me almost as much as the changes some people are trying to impose on our wonderful little town? It's people like Gary Harvey, who, to us his own words, "doesn't have a clue to what's going on out there."

No Mr. Harvey, I don't think we'll all be immediate hostages or victims, should the sheriff's services not get their requested funding, but we will all be better protected should they succeed.

Now about the "zillion" gallons of gas you think are being wasted on officers 'cruising on our highways.' Have you every heard the term "out in the field?" It serves to cut the response time to your home should you have an accident, fire or other emergency, as well as trying to reduce accidents caused by reckless or speeding citizens.

What is, to use your words again, "sad but true," you, by your remarks about our law enforcement and citizens, are the ignorant one here. Since you don't seem to agree with the laws of the State of Oregon, its law enforcement, right down to its ignorant citizens.

I'm sure the 51 percent that you claim steal, as well as the other 49 percent, will be quite happy to see you leave it and since your roots here go no farther down than general delivery, your move should be an easy one.

To the Editor:

I would like to make sure that you are aware of the upcoming community meeting that will be happening Wednesday, March 12 at the elementary school.

This meeting is the first of a series that will result from the efforts of the Sisters Improvement Committee that obtained a $20,000 grant for a community visioning grant from the U.S Forest Service.

The purpose of this grant is to try to seat all of the community interest groups, governmental entities, and all of the various special interest groups and factions at the same table to try and forge a common vision and working plan for the community in a professionally facilitated forum.

I believe that everyone realizes what a tremendous challenge that this will be for the community, but if we do not take advantage of this opportunity, we will fail for lack of trying.

The Sisters Improvement Commission would like to invite all of the local groups and organizations to attend and be involved with these sessions.

We also want to invite all of the citizens concerned with the future of Sisters to be involved.

We feel that it is critical that all viewpoints be considered in this process if the end result is to be of any value.

Please get involved,

Gary Miller

To the Editor:

As you may know, there is a possibility the eighth graders will be moved back to the intermediate school.

Not one of us have been asked about this move. I'm sure I am defending everyone of my class members; we don't want to move.

There is not enough room for all of us at the intermediate school. It is not right to put us into the high school and then jerk us out.

We are human and we will defend ourselves. Please consider us. We are the ones who are affected by this major decision.

To the Editor:

A Broadway standing ovation to all the performers of 'Sisters Act on Broadway.' You did a great job! Thank you to all the sound, light, and stage crew members, refreshment volunteers, setup and takedown crews, and to the Sisters community for their continual support.

Thank you to the Sisters High School band for all their assistance, especially to band instructor, Jodi Henderson for his support and help. I am always grateful to the 'Sisters Act' committee, Cheryle, Bev, Barb, and our artist, Robin, for once again pulling the show together.

A special thank you to custodians, Lorry Williams and Jim Wysong for their help with moving and arranging 600 chairs and for all the work they do at the high school to make it a pleasant place to have such fund-raisers.

A big round of applause to all. You are appreciated.

Gratefully,

Theresa Slavkovsky

To the Editor:

Once again the 'Kid's Club' ski program at Hoodoo was a success. There were 45 students from Sisters and 18 from three surrounding schools.

The Hoodoo instructors were so enthusiastic and genuinely cared about their students. The award ceremony and barbecue was a lot of fun. There were hot dogs and soda and smiles from parents and kids alike.

All the skiers received a prize or two thanks to the generous businesses in Sisters.

Thank you to all you parents for getting your children there on time (no easy feat) bundled up and fed and ready for 1-1/2 hours of skiing. We'll see you next year.

Sincerely,

Denice Cristiano
