Police reserves put up new address numbers

Sisters police reserves are pitching in to make sure residences and businesses in sisters have correct address numbers.

The officers in the not-for-profit organization will go door to door starting Monday, April 28, offering to put up correct address numbers.

According to Sisters police officer Todd Williver, the numbers will be of one size and style that conforms to city code requirements. A nominal charge of around $5 will cover the cost of the numbers, which the reserves will install for free.

The city made sweeping changes in street addresses several months ago to help emergency services respond more quickly to calls. According to Williver, there are still many houses and businesses that have not put up their new address.

The county's new enhanced 911 system lists Sisters' addresses, Williver said. Police or fire personnel need to be sure that the numbers on the houses match the addresses they are responding to. Otherwise, vital minutes can be squandered trying to respond to a call.

The reserves have a list of old and new addresses, so they won't come to houses and businesses tha

t already have the correct address.

Those who wish to call in advance to request the address installation can contact the Sisters Police Department at 549-2302
