The fire season begins

An ember from a permitted burn blew into the brush at a residence in Squaw Creek Canyon Thursday, May 8, ig

niting a brush fire that charred about three-quarters of an acre before firefighters knocked it down.

Sisters fire units, along with Forest Service and Oregon Department of Forestry firefighters responded to the blaze at 69876 Stardust Lane in Sno Cap Vista.

According to fire captain Gary Lovegren, the blaze was caused by a slight east wind that picked up an ember and blew it outside the controlled burn area.

On Saturday, May 10, the Sisters RFPD responded to a small blaze at the old Lundgen Mill site on Pine Street.

According to Fire Chief Don Mouser, someone set some shavings on fire and put them under a board. The smoke was reported at 3:22 p.m.

The fire was held to a very small area by six firefighters operating from one engine.

Mouser said that there are no suspects at this time, although investigators did discover some evidence at the sc

ene.

Yet another blaze flared in the brush along North Pine Street Monday afternoon, May 12, after sparks fell from a power pole.

That blaze was quickly put out.

The permit burning season remains open, but fire officials noted that with the advent of hot weather the season is likely to be closed soon
