To the Editor:
I just read about the effort by the community to save the tree that was supposed to be a sidewalk. How nice that the community would go to such effort for a tree.
Now, how about that much effort with each other and the things that really matter in Central Oregon!

As a twenty year plus Sisters property owner and part time resident, I am grateful to those residents who encouraged the "keep the tree" effort.
Sidewalk and cement alterations can be made far more easily and in much shorter time than it took the tree to grow.
Also, thanks so much for having The Nugget on-line. This allows me to keep up with events in Sisters regardless of where my geographic location might be.

A sincere and profound "thank you for a job well done" goes out to Dennis Levine and the competent group of school bus drivers who got our children to and from school safely this last year.
Their dedication, stamina, patience and skills are to be commended. During the winter months, with deep snow and icy roads, I felt at peace sending my child off to catch the school bus. It was obvious that he would get safely to school as I watched the school bus slowly and smoothly pull up to a stop to pick him up.
These drivers have a huge responsibility. It takes very special people to be able to diligently and persistently provide this service. From disciplining the unruly to watching the road; it's an amazing task to get all the children to school on time, safely, day after day. We want to express heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you.
Have a wonderful summer; you truly deserve it.
With all due respect,
Jennifer and Travis Gothberg

To the Editor:
I must take strong exception to the letter of Carla Booker regarding Molly Ivins' column. I agree that her writing style is entirely different from Mr. Royko's; hers is humorous, while his was serious, but both writers present a definite and differing point of view.
While one may disagree with her opinion, or the way she expresses her opinion, her facts are verifiable, her conceptions based solidly on common sense, and I find her style entertaining as well as informative.
It is most important in a democratic society, for the news media to be a forum for all variations of opinion and I congratulate The nugget for choosing to carry Molly Ivins' column. I sincerely hope they continue to do so.
Yours truly,
Philip E. Blatt
