To the Editor:

Congratulations to the Pine Tree Square, Mountain Man Trading Post and Habitat for Humanity on their recent grand openings and additions.

In my opinion, these new buildings have set the standard for future western theme designs.

Next time you're around town, take a closer look at these stores, particularly the Habitat store. You won't see any LP pressboard siding on these additions to our town. They have taken the extra design effort and expense to create retail storefronts that beautifully fit our western theme.

Their pride and commitment to Sisters is evident in these designs.

Sincerely,

Tim Clasen

To the Editor:

Thanks again to our students, staff, parents and community for our beautiful landscaping at the elementary school.

It is growing and looking great!

However, sadly, someone choose to remove some plants from our front garden around June 16. I cannot determine how or why this would happen in our great community.

Many people continue to work and use our building this summer. Staff are completing projects and planning for next year. We have a summer school program. Churches use our building on the weekends and an upcoming Bible school for a week.

Kiwanis uses our buildings on Mondays. We'll have a sports camp, plus the other recreational activities on the school fields. Further, we hope to have our grounds in nice shape to welcome our students back to school.

I hope that anyone who chose to remove these plants replaces them soon.

Our school is yours to use and take care of for others to use and treasure as well. Let's maintain the standard of respecting our schools and public properties.

To the Editor:

My wife and I recently moved into a home at Metolius Meadows (Camp Sherman). We called U.S. West to obtain phone service and ultimately discovered there are no new lines available for this area.

We are presently without phone service. I know this sounds incredulous (circa 1997) but U.S. West is unable to provide new phone service (new lines) into Camp Sherman/Metolius Meadows at this time. Apparently U.S. West has 100 lines presently into the Camp Sherman area and all are either in use or defective.

After seven days without phone service, U.S. West has supplied us with a cell phone but it's virtually useless because of the weak signal conditions at Camp Sherman.

Hopefully this situation will improve soon but U.S. West will give no time frame for resolving the problem.

Best,

Conrad Weiler

To the Editor:

The Shriners are bringing a circus to the Deschutes County Fairgrounds on Sunday, June 29 and Monday, June 30.

My father was a charter member of the Shrine on the Oregon coast in 1941, and I have heard wonderful stories of what this organization has done for children with longterm disease all my life. Some of these children live right here.

Central Oregon Shrine Club also donated tickets to SOAR to distribute to youth in Sisters, for which I would like to thank them.

Do something fun for yourselves and your families and go to the circus. Many children will benefit and you will have a ball.
