Wayfarers wedged, with wounds, in weekend wrecks

Sisters had a rash of traffic accidents last week. Fortunately, everyone involved will make a complete recovery.

On Friday, June 27, at about 11:55 a.m., a 1988 Ford Bronco rolled on Camp Polk Road near Trapper Point. The driver, Francis Anderson, 50, of Bend, was taken to St. Charles Medical Center for evaluation and was treated and released.

On Saturday, June 28, Nanci Hackler of Castro Valley, California, pulled out of Barclay Way near the Sisters Airport onto Camp Polk Road. Hackle's Ford pick-up was struck by a Mazda RX-7 driven by David Rick Vitelle, of Sisters.

A passenger in the Mazda, Rory Hunt, also of Sisters, was taken to St. Charles by Sisters Ambulance. He was treated and released.

According to police, Hackler just did not see the Mazda approach.

Later on Saturday, June 29, at 7:17 p.m., Colleen Johnson, of Springfield, was heading up Highway 20 west of Hoodoo when her car crossed the center line and struck a vehicle driven by Christopher Richer, of Bend.

A third vehicle driven by Thomas McClain, of Bend, also westbound, attempted to avoid the accident but was struck by Johnson's car as it spun out, according to the Oregon State Police.

All of the Richer family -- father, mother and three children -- were taken to St. Charles, as was Michael Johnson, a passenger with Colleen in the first vehicle, according to Sisters/Camp Sherman RFPD Chief Don Mouser.

"It took nearly 20 minutes with the jaws (a hydraulic extrication tool) to get some of them out," Mouser said.

However, none were seriously injured. All were treated and released, according to St. Charles.

Colleen Johnson was cited for driving while suspended and failing to drive right. It was wet and she was driving on bald tires, according to OSP.

A two-car accident slowed traffic in downtown Sisters on Sunday, June 29, at S. Oak and Cascade. Tiffany Randall, 18, rear-ended Lynda Rondeau, 46, driving a Jeep Cherokee.

Randall was transported to St. Charles with a head laceration. She was cited for following too closely.
