Sisters man arrested for assault

Sisters police arrested Jeremy Cledenny, 23, of Sisters, after he allegedly struck and menaced his estranged wife at the Sno-Cap Drive-in on Sunday, August 17.

Oregon State Police later lodged additional charges against Cledenny for an incident earlier that day in which Cledenny allegedly broke into his estranged wife's home in the Plainview area at 4:30 a.m., chased her male companion out of the house, and threatened her.

Sisters police responded to a report of a disturbance at the Sno-Cap at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The responding officer reported that Cledenny's wife had a swollen lip and a bloody tongue. According to Cledenny's estranged wife and a witness, Cledenny allegedly chased his wife into the Sno-Cap and accosted her again after a friend helped her get to her car.

Cledenny allegedly tried to grab the woman's car keys and then reached for a greeting card she was holding. He allegedly struck her in the mouth as he was pulling the card out of her grip.

The woman and a witness also reported that Cledenny said something about a gun that they perceived as a threat.

Cledenny told police he was trying to see what was written on the card and was unaware that he had struck his wife. He reportedly acknowledged mentioning a gun, but he told police he was not making a threat and his statement was taken out of context.

Sister police took Cledenny into custody on charges of fourth-degree assault and menacing. After Cledenny was lodged in jail, Oregon State Police lodged further charges of first-degree burglary, second-degree sex abuse and two counts of menacing.
