News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Weitech Inc., a Sisters business that manufactures electronic pest-control devices, has contributed $10,000 to the Sisters School Foundation for new school classrooms.
"We believe in Sisters and the value of a good education and good educational facilities," said Todd Weitzman, who owns the company with his father, Stewart Weitzman. "We wanted to do our part to help the community we live and work in."
Several contributors have donated sums in the $3,000 to $15,000 range, including Lynn Johnston Building Contractor, project manager Bill Willitts, and school board members Bill Reed and Jan van den Berg. Several other significant donors have insisted on anonymity.
Weitech also plans to lend some muscle to the project.
"We're going to have Weitech Volunteer Day on Saturday, September 6," Todd Weitzman noted.
If the work crew is far enough along the volunteers may paint the outside of the building.
Donations for the classrooms of $250 or more entitle the donor to a brick, engraved with the donor's name, which will be used in the building. The Weitzmans will allow their employees who donate their time to choose the name to be engraved on the brick.
"Other than the camaraderie and fun of doing the work together, this gives the employees another incentive" to volunteer their time, said Weitzman.
