Letters, letters, letters

To the Editor:

In reference to the Letter to the Editor submitted by Warren Campbell, M.D. (The Nugget, August 13,) and the Letter to the Editor submitted by Tim Clasen, City Councilman (The Nugget, August 20), regarding the Sisters Les Schwab Tire Store:

I would think that by being a doctor Dr. Campbell would be accustomed to getting all details about a patient before sending him into the operating room. In my opinion, a vacationing couple from California have no business writing a letter about a locally owned and operated store when they know nothing about it.

Maybe instead of wasting their time on hasty letter writing they should have spent their last few minutes in Sisters at the Les Schwab store finding out about the facts. Because I can guarantee you, Dr. Campbell, that the store will not be a "two-story yellow metal barn" but a beautiful "1880s theme building" that could possibly provide you with a tire or two in your future visits to our beautiful town.

As far as Mr. Clasen's letter goes, he, too, should know that by being a city councilman he should take all sides into consideration before publicly implying that the Sisters Les Schwab Tire Store will not fulfill the obligations of the Highway 242 location. I'm sure that when city councilman Tim Clasen made these allegation he knew that they were both morally and politically incorrect.

It saddens me to think that so many of these people that have written about the store have wasted so much of their time and maybe even gotten writer's cramp writing these ridiculous letters. In the future, I hope that they will go to the source to get the facts because, as I'm sure you've read in the Letters to the Editor (The Nugget, August 20), the Taylors are available for questions or comments.

Editor's note:

The proposed Taylor Tire Center (Les Schwab) continues to generate considerable discussion.

A presentation on the project is scheduled for the Thursday, August 28, meeting of the Sisters City Council, set for 7 p.m. at city hall. We encourage anyone with an interest in the issue to attend.

To the Editor:

Recently I returned home to Southern California from my annual summer visit with friends in Sisters. I have always enjoyed dining, shopping, occasionally staying in your motels, and exploring your beautiful area of Oregon.

Unfortunately, I learned during my visit that Les Schwab Tire Store is planning to build on one of Sisters' most handsome locations at the western approach to your town, thus creating an obstruction to the beautiful view of the snowcapped Sisters peaks.

Good grief, can't they find a more appropriate Sisters location?

The Les Schwab operation has given me excellent service in Redmond and, years ago, in Burns, but I shall never use the services of the Sisters store if they make this unfortunate move.

Isn't there a way that residents of Sisters can prevent this sad and inconsiderate circumstance? My friends and I hope so.

Thank you,

Mary Bryant Mosher

To the Editor:

Thank you, Sisters community, for making our second Country Fair a roaring success.

We were blessed to have had so much support this year. A special thanks to Black Butte Ranch, Ray's Food Place, X-Press Printing, the Fly Fisher's Place and Sisters Chamber of Commerce.

What's a Country Fair without music? Thank you for those magic moments Sisters Community Choir with Peggy Tehan and Jeni Foster, Dick Sandvik and Jim Cornelius, Rudi Booher (Weiser Fiddle Champion), folk singers Paul Stark, Thad Stark and Ricka Rogers, and Siphon.

We added an art show this year and were astonished at the response. Congrats to Paul Bennett, best of show winner, Ricki Poko Stockley, Judge's Award, and Myrna Clearwaters, People's Choice.

To the Editor:

We would like to say thank you to everyone involved in making last week's "Vacation Bible School" such a great success. We will all surely be blessed for your kindness in the donation of your time and supplies to all the children of this community.

In asking our six-year-old son about his day, the smile told it all but the word "awesome" was always there, too! What hope and joy this brings for us as parents, to know that our families are living in a community where "God is still alive" and our kids are free to say "What an Awesome God!"
