To the Editor:

This letter is in response to Warren Campbell M.D., Tim Clasen and Julie Spor on the "tire store debate."

First, Julie's points seem to largely sum up how I feel about Dr. Campbell's arrogant, judgmental, non-tolerant and condescending attitude.

How dare you condescend to us as only a tourist town. Did you actually say where millions of Californians spend their money? Millions? Share your wealth? We have "wealth" here in our community.

Why have we not heard any complaints from the llama ranch, next to the site? They didn't sell them the land to build. Julie Spor is also correct in her observation of our councilman who seems to speak only with the tourist dollar in mind. Yes, this town is a theme of 1880's western setting and many people do depend largely on revenues brought in by visitors seeking views.

Who can know all the facts? Personally, I find Terry Taylor from Les Schwab is available to answer questions. Why can't you build this facility at your present location or in the Industrial Park? Not enough space to build a safe, modern facility, they state.

Whether we like it or not at least Les Schwab seems to be meeting the requirements of the town. Perhaps they could add an observation deck, so sight-seers could have an elevated view of the intersection we all love. Has anyone considered what a developer might do if they got their hands on that location?

To the Editor:

We are very proud of our school staff, students and parents for our continued growth in student achievement. Recent state and national results, show a continued pattern of high and improving student achievement for our Sister's schools.

Our students care about learning, work hard, and generally like school. We also are proud of our safe and respectful schools. Our staff has continued to work on best practices, new materials and high expectations for our students. Our strategic plan, in-services and staff development days have helped. Our site council continues to emphasize student achievement.

We also want to commend our parents for their emphasis on learning and education. Truly, our community's support of its schools play a significant role in our student's learning as well. Students who attend school regularly, behave, and contribute to their learning; do well.

Congratulations to our community for its support and commitment to education.

Together, it works!

Tim Comfort, Sisters Elementary School Principal

To The Editor:

Now that summer is coming to an end and crowds are diminishing, let us not forget Kay McLaren's letter (regarding establishment of a restroom fund).

It is surprising only our reply has come forth in response to her very important letter a few weeks ago. She tackled Sisters - or I should say our (the retailers) biggest problem - the portable toilets.

Having to use them is sure to deter some people from re-visiting Sisters.

I hope a committee can be formed soon to work on this problem and I am sure most retailers will find funds somewhere to support it. We need to find a solution before next season.

Sincerely,

Gudren Kibak

To the Editor:

This is an open letter to all those folks driving home on Camp Polk and Wilt roads enjoying a nice cool brew.

I know a lot of you take the empties home, but for those that don't, could you do two things?

Buy beer in cans, not bottles; bottles don't break when you throw them out on the roadside.

And could you not toss them quite so far? I've started to take a big plastic bag with me on walks and it's amazing how much change can be made on a nice stroll, but scrambling way down or way up a steep cinder bank is not much fun for someone who isn't as young as she used to be.

Sincerely,

Mickey Duehren
