News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
To the Editor:
When Michael Goodwin says he can refute every statement that Steve Huddleston made (The Nugget, December 10), he undoubtedly can.
There are several factors that contribute to his being able to so. His 30 years of first hand experience in the timber industry is one factor. Another is the fact that as a member of the timber industry he bears the burden of having to tell the truth. In my experience, this is not a burden that the environmental community has consistently chosen to bear.
Mr. Goodwin should be commended not only for his recent letter but for the contribution he has made to all of his who live in wood frame houses, furnished with wood or wood-based products.
The list of wood products used in our daily lives is endless. The United States is the best housed nation in the whole world because of the timber industry and individuals such as Michael Goodwin. We owe him a debt of gratitude.
I've not had the privilege of meeting Mr. Goodwin and I hope soon that I do, but I do know that he is not a hypocrite. If the environmentalists lived in homes built of materials other than wood they would have my respect. They don't; they live in wood houses like you and I.

To the Editor:
On behalf of the Classroom Raising Committee, I would like to say thanks again to the people of our community. The realization of this dream was made possible through the efforts and contribution of countless individuals and organizations.
We have tried to list each and every name in our on-going "thermometer" ad which appears in The Nugget. If your name is missing or spelled wrong, please accept my sincere apology for that oversight.
Thanks to all.
Sincerely,
Dennis McGregor
