Family hurt in highway wreck

A family with two young children from Bothell, Washington, were hurt Friday, February 20, when a pickup truck driven by Robert Young of Sisters pulled out in front of their Jeep Cherokee on Highway 20.

According to sheriff's department reports, Young, 84, stopped briefly at the stop sign on Harrington Loop, then swung out in a left-hand turn front of the eastbound Jeep Cherokee. The investigating deputy reported that Young was using oxygen at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Cherokee reportedly told a sheriff's deputy that the truck had made the him nervous and the driver took his foot off the accelerator as he approached the intersection.

"It could have been real bad, and probably would have been if he (the Cherokee driver) hadn't been on his toes," the deputy said.

As it was, the Cherokee was totaled and the pickup truck was seriously damaged.

The driver of the Cherokee suffered a scalp wound, and his wife complained of chest and back pain. Their 14-month-old child received a bruise on the forehead and their two-year-old got a black eye.

Young suffered a cut on his hand. All were treated and released.
