Hamburgers for Habitat

Lill Palmer, owner of the Ski Inn, has once again donated the proceeds from a day's sales to Sisters Habitat for Humanity.

"We did great. We were real happy with the turnout," Palmer said of the Saturday, March 14, event at the cafe on Cascade Street at the east end of Sisters.

Palmer said that about $1,500 was raised through sales, even though an error on the part of The Nugget said the proceeds were going to Hospice, instead of Habitat for Humanity.

Last year, as a way of thanking the community for 25 years of business in Sisters, Palmer donated a day's proceeds to Habitat. She raised $1,200. She said then that the cafe had supported three generations of her family. A granddaughter currently works at the Ski Inn full-time.

She said she made the decision to do it again this year, "I just thoughtI don't know, I just did it. I thought they could use the money, so I just did it."

Kathy Goodwin, of Sisters Habitat for Humanity, said Lill Palmer "has been really generous. Lil and her husband volunteer here too, on top of everything else."

Goodwin said Palmer's donation "is another step in finishing another house. Another sign of the support we get from the local community and local businesses."

As proof of that support, Palmer said that some people had come in to the Ski Inn who could not be in town on Saturday "and just donated money."
