To the Editor:

The Sisters City Council, on the strength of a carefully worded proposal, voted to hire a "neutral facilitator" to explore the waste-water system proposal and report to the voters.

What they have received for their financial outlay is a very expensive "sewer salesperson" (Vergie Reis).

What does the council propose to do about the situation? Or is that what they really wanted all along?

Editor's note:

John Groom is the husband of Virginia Groom, who resigned from the Sisters Sewer Focus Group March 16.

To the Editor:

"And so, extrapolating from the best figures available, we see that the current trends, unless dramatically reversed, will inevitably lead to a situation in which the sky will fall."

But let us cut through the sewage.

It is a stretch to call the sewer a public health matter. Plainly speaking, it is growth, not rot, at issue.

How do we want fair Sisters to change? All the stink boils down to two choices.

One, turn Sisters into another name on the Monopoly board by investing (with your money) in sewers and other infrastructure necessary for (other people's) houses and hotels.

Two, save. Save Sisters' pristine beauty for your family. Save your money that would otherwise be spent to pave the way for a much bigger town.

And do not overlook the boom of rural property values in the Rockies. In the 1990s, the big money is on land of pristine beauty, and developed lands are increasingly treated as damaged goods.

Respectfully yours,

Asher Yaffee

To the Editor:

(Regarding Noreen Boyce's letter concerning President Bill Clinton, The Nugget, March 18):

In the last sentence, a most important word was misspelled in printing. This sentence should read, "perhaps we should all pause and contemplate the meaning of honor, duty, sacrifice, responsibility and fortitude, and not allow our grand institutions to be cast aside into the mire of moral relativism."

To the Editor:

I found it very helpful that Ms. Boyce is able to break down adultery into different categories. We now have a choice as to which form we might condone.

Equally enlightening is the fact that agents appointed to protect the President and the White House are really only Clinton's "Spin Doctors," hired by him. I wonder how many are prepared to accept the bullet meant for him.

I find the Constitution more binding than the Bible. It was written by men who realized this country was founded by people seeking religious freedom from that imposed by their various countries.

Along the way we got a few other goodies like freedom of speech.

I've just read the Constitution and all amendments. Nowhere did I see the words God or adultery. It was very refreshing reading. Try it.
